CONCURRENT CONDITIONS

It is common for patients with TMD to suffer from other concurrent conditions. Some of these conditions are:(4,5)
• Insomnia
• Tinnitus
• Neck pain
• Shoulder pain
• Headaches, tension headaches, migraine headaches, temporal headaches. Temporal headaches are common, often the headache can be modified with jaw movement.
• Trigeminal neuralgia
• Trouble swallowing (dysphagia)
• Peripheral neuropathy
• Thoracic outlet syndrome

Some of these conditions could be related to autonomic nervous system dysfunction. Especially in cases of increased stress or anxiety. Abnormal breathing patterns are commonly seen in cases of increased stress or anxiety. (4, 5)
